Good morning from sunny Wiltshire. Station Harry, Fab Rick and the Yarnbirds are my alter egos.
Station Harry is the part of me that loves anything paper or card related. My dad was a jobbing printer way back in olden times before personal printers were even a pipe dream. He had a small printing works in Clerkenwell, just around the corner from Charterhouse Square and Smithfield meat market. As a child I loved to visit and to watch the huge printing machines at work, and I grew up to love the smell of paper and printers ink which seeped into dad's clothing. I am now a stationeryholic.
Fab Rick is the part of me that loves materials of any sort. My mum wasn't a dressmaker as such, but she did make a lot of our clothes as my sister and I were growing up during the post-war austerity years. I loved the look and sound of her old hand-turning Singer sewing machine - and now, at long last, I own a Singer of my own, a slightly more modern all-singing, all-dancing version which I bought in 2011, and I have a huge stash of fabric which I just love the feel and the smell of.
The Yarnbirds are the manifestations of my love of anything created with yarn, knitted, crocheted and even woven. My mum, who was always knitting, taught me to knit when I was 5 years old, I taught myself to crochet, I've yet to learn to weave, but I have a huge stash of both knitted and crocheted items and yarn.
So together, Harry, Rick, the Birds and myself will be offering a range of unique items, some stationery, some fabric, some knitted or crocheted and some a mixture of two or even all three. We'll be starting to offer these items when I return from my next, and final (for this year) mini world tour in September, but I'll be posting up a few photos between now and then, to show some of the things we've been working on.
Please ask if there is anything you think you would like to buy, and please also feel free to make suggestions about anything you think we could do.
